The main minerals found in Brazilian Slate include quartz, muscovite, chlorite, and graphite.

Physical Properties:

Colour: Brazilian Slate is predominantly black in colour, although it may also have shades of dark grey or blue-grey.

Texture: It has a smooth, fine-grained texture with a slightly glossy or satin-like appearance.

Hardness: Brazilian Slate is known for its hardness and durability. It typically has a Mohs hardness rating of 5 to 6, making it resistant to scratching and abrasion.

Density: The density of Brazilian Slate ranges from 2.6 to 2.8 grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm³), indicating its compact and sturdy nature.

Water Absorption: Brazilian Slate is considered to be highly impermeable, with low water absorption levels ranging from 0.2% to 0.5%.

Porosity: It has low porosity, which enhances its resistance to staining and chemical damage.

Slip Resistance: Due to its naturally textured surface, Brazilian Slate provides good slip resistance, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Sizes and Formats: Brazilian Slate is available in various sizes and formats, allowing for versatile applications. Commonly used formats include:

Tiles: Rectangular or square-shaped tiles in standard sizes like 12x12 inches (30x30 cm), 18x18 inches (45x45 cm), or custom sizes.

Slabs: Large slabs for countertops or wall cladding purposes, typically with thicknesses ranging from 2 cm to 3 cm.
