Can I use mortar to bed my Brazilian Slate floor tiles?

Is it possible to bed the slate onto mortar on an existing concrete slab?

It is possible to lay your Brazilian slate floor tiles on a bed of mortar but this is now considered the unapproved 'old fashioned' method of installation which over time.

Could see the tiles become detached from the mortar bed due to the tiles expanding and contracting with temperature fluctuations.

Present tile adhesives are designed for the specific job of firmly bonding tiles to a variety of substrates.

These modern products have high level polymers added which will provide extra 'grab' to the tiles during periods of movement due to expansion and contraction, all of which, mortar doesn't have.
