Is natural black Brazilian slate suitable for a patio garden or is it better to use flagstones?

Is natural black Brazilian slate suitable for a patio garden or is it better to use flagstones?

Brazilian slate paving is perfect for outdoor use.

They have a natural anti slip property, are frost resistant and are also really hardwearing.

They come in a dark colours normally either black or grey so they tend to blend in lovely to outdoor areas at home. Currently trends tend to be the darker colours in and around the home both inside and out. Slate really lends itself to this trend naturally and has seen a large increase in its popularity.

The thickness of the slate pavers also means they can be laid onto an MOT Type 1 sub-base on a sand & cement bed. Whereas the thinner 10mm tiles, although suitable for exterior use, would need to be installed on a solid concrete bed.

You find that Brazilian slate paving also offers a large amount of flexibility due to the large amount of sizes that it is available in. With the choice of square or rectangular tiles you can create a really uniform appearance or one which is highly patterned.

Brazilian slate is also a lovely stone for cutting to size if needed, with the use of a diamond tipped angle grinder and wetting the stone you will get a perfect finish. This once again
