Do we need to put the sealant on the rear of the tile to stop the dye from the grout coming through the oyster slate tiles?

Hi, we bought some Oyster split face mini tiles from you yesterday.

We were wondering do we need to put the sealant on the rear of the tile to stop the dye from the grout coming through the tile?

Cheers

Hello Paul

Thank you for your question.

It is not necessary or recommended to seal the back of the tiles prior to installation. The sealers are designed to be a surface barrier to moisture, this effectively helps spills etc. to not soak into the surface of the tile, therefore the action of sealing the back will impede the adhesives ability to bond with the underside of the tile.

Just to reassure you, we have sold this particular stone and oyster floor tiles for quite a number of years with no issues with staining whilst using a grey adhesive to fix. We do recommend when installing the white quartz that white adhesive be used but this is not generally necessary for the oyster range but should you be concerned, you can use white adhesive to fix.

I hope this answers your question but please feel free to call and speak to our technical department should you have any further queries or concerns.

Kind regards
mrs stone store team
