Sealing slate tiles outdoors

Our builder told us that there is no need to seal slate tiles that will be installed on our front porch and patio.

I have heard that it is wise sealing slate tiles with silicone which does not cause them to have that artificial sheen, but does protect the tile from staining. Should slate tiles outdoors be sealed?

Hello Roger

It is always best practice to seal natural stone tiles in both in and outdoor installations, not only will sealing help prevent staining.

It will also aid the cleaning of organic matter that could form over the stone in an external application.
