Are Brazilian slate tiles suitable for a driveway?

Can you drive a car on Brazillian slate tiles ? We want to use it for our drive ....

Hello Greg

There will be no issue with Brazilian slate tiles themselves for use on a driveway however the installation below the tiles will need to be sufficient and capable of carrying the weight of the traffic over it.

The sub base will depend on which Brazilian slate tiles are more suited for the project for instance, should you be installing onto a solid concrete preset pad, the 8-12 mm or calibrated 10mm tiles will be fine for use in this instance and a full installation guide is given under the question heading 'Can you advise exactly how I should lay my riven slate tiles outdoors?'

Should you however be tiling onto a type 1 MOT base then the outdoor pavers should be used.

For either tile range, it is imperative that a FULL BED of adhesive be used, the 'dot and dab' method is not recommended as a method of fixing tiles for any floor or wall project, either in or outdoors.

If you would like any further advice Greg please feel free to call our sales team on 01283 730388 who will be happy to help you.
