What Thickness Slate Pavers Should I Use For A Patio And What Base Is Needed?

Hi.

I would like to order some Brazilian Black Natural Riven pavers for my patio.

Can you please let me know if these are suitable? What thickness should I use and what base is needed? Also do we need to grout between them, or can they be laid without any gap (our preference).

How do we know how many of each size to order if we choose a pattern

Thanks for your help.

Kind regards

Kirsten

Brazilian Slate Pavers are perfect for using outside & can be laid onto a compacted MOT type 1 sub-base on a sand & cement bed.

They should be laid with a grout joint, even if this is minimal, to allow for any lateral movement from expansion in the sub-base, which could cause the slate to crack if it has 'nowhere to go'. Extreme weather conditions such as frost or high temperatures can cause expansion and contraction & the grout (usually flexible) acts as a 'buffer'

On our website we have a fantastic pattern tool. All you need to do is enter the area you are covering & your chosen pattern ( with Pavers we recommend the Repton Pattern) & the website will calculate the exact amount of each size tile required.
