Cloudy film on my slate floor seems to get worse when we continue cleaning it
Asked by... Tina from Florida

The Question

We layed a slate floor under a pergola outside and sealed the slate tile as advised by Lowes. Now the tiles have a cloudy film cover and the colors are only vibrant when the slate is wet. Please help!

The Answer

Hello Tina

My guess is that the slate tiles have either been rained on or have become damp/wet by some method after sealing. What you have described usually occurs when the polymers in the sealer have not had chance to properly cure before becoming wet, these polymers react with the water causing the cloudy film you are describing. You should find that after a few clear days of drying and a good jet wash this film will be removed and will not cause any permanent damage to the slate tiles.
